Collaboration with Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and the University of Geneva -Faculty of Medicine

Within the framework of the National Health Care Reform Program Den Sooluk for 2012-2016, as well as the Strategy of reforming higher medical and pharmaceutical education in the Kyrgyz Republic for several years Kyrgyz State Medical Academy named after I.K. Akhunbaev carried out cooperation with the Geneva University Hospitals and the University of Geneva -Faculty of Medicine (UNIGE, Switzerland) under the Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic, represented by the Ministry of Health and the Swiss Confederation, represented by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), with the support of the Project "Medical Education Reforms" (2014 -2017, Phase I).

This project was initiated in 2013 with private funding, while from 2009 to 2012 SDC has provided technical support for the implementation of undergraduate medical education reform in Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the project "Support to the health sector budget through SWAP» with the help of the Medical University of Geneva (MUG) Switzerland. In the mentioned period it was approved strategy for reforming the pre-graduate education and has developed a new training standard for the specialty "general practitioner", which was approved by the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2015.

Collaboration between KSMA and the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and the University of Geneva - Faculty of Medicine covers not only the pre-graduate medical education reform but also the post-graduate and continuing medical education. Joint education and training programs, research projects are being established.

The main activities of cooperation between the KSMA and the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and the University of Geneva - Faculty of Medicine aims to improve the quality of medical education by revising curricula based on competencies of general practitioners, publication of manuals, equipping training centers dummies, mannequins, equipment and software of the Library automation system “IRBIS – 64”, training of the teaching staff, the introduction of evaluation of knowledge by OSCE and self-esteem of students and professors.
